Bloodless methods of reducing the number of otters are possible and are already working in other situations. This emerged the proposed event held Friday 10 November, to come in against the growing respect for animal life. The meeting organized by the founders of the Facebook page "otters Rio Ospo" with the collaboration of MujaVeg, Muggia has led to the highest subject matter experts both locally and nationally. The meeting aims to dispel the myths about the cute coypu indicated the alternatives and abatement measures to prevent possible damage.
Among the dignitaries present also the Deputy Mayor of the City of Muggia Laura Litteri, who reported receiving the MujaVeg project for the sterilization of otters, which will be discussed in the City Council. The project was also sent to ISPRA and the Region and is waiting for an opinion.
Among the speakers was present Sergio Dolce, biologist and former Director of the Museum of Natural Sciences of Trieste, who presented the habitat of the Valley of Noghere and the various non-native species that live there. Immediately after, biologist Samuele Venturini described, tra le altre cose, the method Buccinasco: the procedure implemented by him in Lombardy to contain otters through sterilization.
The meeting has attracted the interest of the audience that filled the coffee room of the Teatro Verdi of the lakeside town. Present in the audience also councilor of Muggia Emanuele Romano, the Regional Director Emiliano Ivy and MEP Marco Zullo.
During the meeting we were collected some funds to cover the expenses and the advanced 80,10 EUR was donated to Vegetarians and Vegans Muja who began to raise money for the eventual possibility of canceling out the otters of the Rio Ospo basin.
